To begin with a question, what is anticipation?
The expectation of some event or idea to happen. A dog drools when anticipating his meal.
To wait for something to happen.
Imagining how something is going to be when it happens. It generally has a positive context.
True. I will offer mine. Anticipation is active belief. Passive belief is prejudice. Two sides of the same coin though, and we will go into that.
It is called dread perhaps when in the negative context. Paranoia as well? Indeed. Paranoia is a well developed habit of dread, but we can develop any of a range of habits.
I don’t think you could be self sufficient at all without anticipation. Anticipating I’ll be hungry later makes me act now. Yes. How could one function without anticipation? Is there any activity where it is unimportant? Where anticipation is unimportant in the activity? Or perhaps another question. Why do you think?
To anticipate. Is there any other reason why you think other than anticipation?
Dream. Vision reality? Dream is perception rather than thought. You often think and dream at the same time. They are different processes.
What about a day dream? Is that thinking or dreaming? Day dreams are still perception. They are just seen through a narrow band of intuition. Squinting with the minds eye.
What about remembering a past event and thinking about it? Memory is perception also, but you can think about memory as well, and you can have your thought governed by memory. You can think as if the memory is current. This is what we call habit. We have habit so we aren’t constantly reinventing thought patterns.
Anticipation can be defined as mental targeting. Anticipation is the same as goal setting, and even supposedly aimless people do it. No one can actually avoid it, but the degree of art and skill behind the anticipation can range quite a bit. Attention is like a bow. Intention is the arrow, and anticipation is the skill of targeting.
Your energy is inherently dynamic. This is why we call it energy. It will never fail to go somewhere and do something, but a lot of problems come about because of blind fire, even friendly fire mishaps. When you find yourself at cross purposes to a life partner say, or to a child only later to discover they are innocent of wrong doing, why do these things occur?
Your paths split? Attention splits. Targeting gets confused.
You want different things. Is it always good to get what you want? In exactly the way you want it? No.
Why is it that our desires often turn out to be problems? Your problems now were also desires. They now seem to be problems because you have a habit that produces errors in anticipation.
