Category: Fatalism

People struggle with fatalism, also known as defeatism. It calls into question our feelings and desires, our hopes and dreams, and seems to crush them under foot almost completely.

Real magick is a system of observations, actions, and practices based on the little lattices of probability, cause and effect, and it works with the assumption that with the right cause being initiated, you can be confident of the desired effect. In magick, you look at what could be called quantum systems. Coincidence, in a sense, in that they state that things occur in whole patterns, and that these patterns consistently reproduce themselves. Your life can’t change only by parts. You can’t change one habit and not have it affect other habits. In time, it affects all habits. We do live in a quantum world.

In magick, everything and anything we would influence is seen as whole and thus holographic. If you would change it, you have to have some part of it. The purpose of practicing magick is to establish a resonance with a power in the world you would seek to master. People say they didn’t ask to be alive. Which is fine, it doesn’t matter if they asked, they can decide how it will all go. By owning it, you can control it. By disowning it, it controls you.

“Most people of action are inclined to fatalism and most of thought believe in providence.” Honore de Balzac (French Novelist, 1799-1850)

    Web of Cause and Effect

Today we are talking about fatalism, and yes, it was inevitable. 😛 There are questions of causality that come up in any magickal practice. Sort of the principle of damned if you do and damned if you don’t, and some think that any magickal practice flies in the face of these notions. Especially when it…

  • Essence of Real Magick

    Essence of Real Magick

Why would anyone try to practice magick? To exert control over events, the same reason people pray. Yet the structure of the practice is different. It would seem that structure would be largely if not completely meaningless, yet we do relate to one differently than the other. Why is that? Structure makes it seem more…

  • One Force

    One Force

Changing the future can affect the past? Indeed. Changing the future can change the past, because there are not two things to change, just one. The world is full of these crushing forces of probability, like huge glaciers sliding down a mountain side, but even the mass of these glaciers can change, even completely disappear.…

  • Free Your Will

    Free Your Will

I need to back track a little bit. Let’s work with a magickal thought. Sleep brings change. Can everyone agree with that? Can you really die from lack of sleep? Yes. There is a rare genetic disorder that stops people from sleeping. They don’t live past their thirties. Is it because of the lack of…

  • Have Some Part

    Have Some Part

In magick, everything and anything we would influence is seen as whole and thus holographic. If you would change it, you have to have some part of it, but any part is as good as any other part. They all have the same power. I need to be good and bad? Yes. Selectively good and…

  • Know Your Instrument

    Know Your Instrument

We can only sing one song at a time. The purpose of practicing magick is to establish a resonance with a power in the world you would seek to master, and just as music follows a sliding scale, so do these forces. This is why they seem inevitable. They are all there, and everything will…

  • Harmonize

    Harmonize

Now using my wife and I as an example of how two instruments could harmonize. She is order. It is what she is being forced to do/be. The force is beyond any one person, any single situation, and it is actually not separate from herself. Fighting it, she fights herself. Using it, only as she…

    Owning ‘The Doer’

I see the need to get rich, but not the motivation. Be fruitful. Are other people trying to tell him how to get rich? No, but they are telling him how to be productive. He sees getting rich as the way to be free of the productivity shackle. Is this correct? Well, all the problems…

    Owning ‘The Orderer’

Now shall we discuss your order? What is it you feel called on to do so much? Forced to do. Put things away, sort things. Keep things, and you want to keep things, all things, people too. I did throw a lot of stuff away last weekend and suddenly started sobbing. So in your situation, you…

    Owning ‘The Talker’

I take people’s ideas when I should be giving ideas. You take them and digest them. Yes, and though this is a part of my natural process, it isn’t the goal. It isn’t my goal. My goal is to affect change. I want to ask people to do things, but I don’t. I do mean…
