There is a process that can occur between people that will allow for growth. We have been doing it for as long as we have gathered together socially. Narrative or storytelling. The narrative is a collaborative effort. If you start engaging someone in storytelling collaboratively, you will send the right signals to activate the characters in their story. Then you can corrupt those characters. Introduce new ideas and behaviors relating to that specific thing. This leads to what people call realization, and we all want to be realized.

We don’t live myriad separate lives. There aren’t separate threads of life that have any substance by themselves. We all are living one epic story of love and loss, conflict and resolution, confusion and sudden enlightenment, even epic journeys into the unknown.

“It is by teaching that we teach ourselves, by relating that we observe, by affirming that we examine, by showing that we look, by writing that we think, by pumping that we draw water into the well.” Henri Frederic Amiel (Swiss writer known for his masterpiece Journal intime, 1821-1881)

“My vision of a real humanity is of pure individuals relating to each other, but not tied in any relationship. They will be loving to each other, but not being possessive of each other. They will be sharing with each other all their joys and all their blessings, but never even in their dreams thinking of dominating, thinking of enslaving the other person.” Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (Indian Spiritual leader, 1931-1990)

Narrative as a Process for Growth

Today’s topic is relating. We all experience the world through a filter of our own internal language. Our memory of experience “enhances” all current experience, and we are caught up in an internal dialogue between me myself and I, as they say. Is that your conscience? It is part of it, yes. Even current research…

    Collaborative Effort

The narrative is a collaborative effort. If I tell you about a fish I saw, but you look confused about what the word fish means, I have to accept your confused state and work with you until we can come to a reasonable shared image of what a fish is. Do people do this in…

  • One Epic Story

    One Epic Story

Epic is such a buzz word these days. People will even say the latest epic movie is cheesy, corny and shallow, and yet everyone will go see it anyway. Old cheesy movies are so popular. Indeed, and there is a reason. We don’t live myriad separate lives. There aren’t separate threads of life that have…

  • Power of Story

    Power of Story

The power of stories. They are very powerful because no matter the imagery found in any one person’s world window, there is an analogue for something in the world. This is part of why people so willingly believe what they are told. It does create a reasonable facsimile of life. If you start engaging someone…

  • Embrace Your Truth

    Embrace Your Truth

Has everyone seen the movie “The Matrix”? Just one part relates to the subject of relating. The thing the young boy tells Neo about bending the spoon with his mind. That there is no spoon. The characters in your world window are only virtually true. There is no spoon. There is no job. There is…

  • No Story, No Relating

    No Story, No Relating

There seem to be more serial killers around now than ever before. On serial killers, they have been making amazing strides in understanding how the human mind works. We all have some ability to see people and living things as an “it”. All predators are born psychopaths? No. Predators are natural. Humans are worse. All thinkers…

    Choose Everybody

Politicians just pass laws to steal from the poor and give to themselves. Actually, the politicians have great empathy, just no sympathy. No genuine narrative. They see themselves as above the people at large. That’s why the law should get out of the marriage business. Some things are not for a genuine democratic government to…
