Ethics
The branch of philosophy that examines attitudes and codes of conduct for their truthful and useful character. You will have attitudes, preferences, and beliefs about any experience you have in life.
Spiritual practices are observed to reinforce a commitment to a set of attitudes and thereby insure the manifestation of these attitudes in society, or to open the mind to spiritual insight to allow change in attitudes and thus improved spiritual and even physical well being. All spiritual symbolism you see is a symbol of an attitude and can remind you of its use. It’s the value of carrying symbols, at least for those who are ethically focused, otherwise they are just badges of allegiance. Ethics originate from what Taoists call the te. Innate virtue.
“A man without ethics is a wild beast loosed upon this world.” Albert Camus (French Novelist, Essayist and Playwright, 1957 Nobel Prize for Literature, 1913-1960)
“Ethics is nothing else than reverence for life.” Albert Schweitzer (German medical Missionary, Theologian, Musician and Philosopher. 1952 Nobel Peace Prize, 1875-1965)
