Rectitude
Rectitude, rightness, how do we gauge the rightness of any situation? There are many models for rectitude, some more impersonal than others. Many gauge their spiritual growth by what degree their actions conform to a doctrine or belief system. Others gauge their progress to what degree their practice of various principles or life style elements shows refinement or “maturity.”
The fundamental challenge of rectitude is reconciliation of the personal God with the collective demon. The point of my questioning is to illustrate the break between personal well being and consensus perception.
Rectitude is “the power of deciding upon a certain course of conduct in accordance with reason, without wavering; to die when it is right to die, to strike when it is right to strike.” Samurai Warrior
“Conscience is merely our own judgment of the moral rectitude or turpitude of our own actions.” John Locke
