Sloth

Sloth is defined as a disinclination toward doing any work. I offer that the “evil” of sloth arises from a refusal to indulge in it. Leading to an apathy and then to a misanthropy as you cannot allow others to engage in sloth if you will not permit it in yourself. We were not shackled with ego. We were gifted with it. So when ego leads us to moments of sloth, who are we to judge? We are touched by the spirit of sloth, and react with judgement. We analyze, or even worse reject these spirits, then wonder why they seem to dominate our reality.

We cling vehemently to disempowering relationships with the “gods/spirits/emotions” never realizing that any relationship is our choice. We are given total choice and total freedom.

“Nothing irritates me more than chronic laziness in others. Mind you, it’s only mental sloth I object to. Physical sloth can be heavenly.” Elizabeth Hurley (English Model and Actress. b.1965, Hampshire, England, UK)

“Moderation cannot claim the merit of opposing and overcoming Ambition: they are never found together. Moderation is the languor and sloth of the soul, Ambition its activity and heat.” François de la Rochefoucauld (French classical author, leading exponent of the Maxime, 1613-1680)
