Wonder
Wonder is the default state of mind. It’s the childs mind or the beginners mind. Losing wonder, we lose perspective. We lose touch with reality. Wonder isn’t some clean and sanitized thing suitable only for ivory tower philosophers. It’s terrible in both it’s beauty and it’s ugliness. In it’s morbid moments as well as it’s inspiring heights.
With the sword of wonder you can wonder in all directions and your world can become very clear, but you need something else in order to move forward in your life. The companion sword is affinity. We know our affinity when we experience rapport with a situation. Seek and you will find. Knock and it will be opened unto you. You seek with your wonder. You knock with your affinity.
“From wonder into wonder existence opens.” Lao Tzu (Chinese taoist Philosopher. 600 BC-531 BC)
“Wondering’s healthy. Broadens the mind. Opens you up to all sorts of stray thoughts and possibilities.” Charles de Lint (Celtic folk musician and story teller, b.1951)
“Wonder rather than doubt is the root of knowledge” Abraham Joshua Heschel (Polish born American Educator, Writer, Philosopher and Theologian of Judaism, 1907-1972)
