Bushido
The Japanese bushi = warrior, do = way. Bushido is the Japanese warrior way. A philosophy. Bushido is about pride, but not about arrogance. The teachings of Bushido were diverse, and they were in a sense an education of themselves including more than martial training and discipline. What they sought was a transcendent dedication.
“The penetrating brilliance of swords, wielded by followers of the Way, strikes at the evil enemy, lurking deep within, their own souls and bodies.” Morihei Ueshiba, The Art of Peace
“It is bad when one thing becomes two. One should not look for anything else in the Way of the Samurai. If one understands things in this manner, he should be able to hear about all Ways and be more and more in accord with his own.” Tsunetomo Yamamoto, The Hagakure
