Forgiveness is giving up all hope for a better past. That sums it up perfectly. You are here now. Can you be here now if you have old grudges in your mind? Can you pay full attention to your life that way, or actually help make anything better?
Hoping for a better past is truly insane. Yes. Another definition of insanity is repeating the same action non-stop and hoping for a different outcome. If you are locked into what you cannot permit, you will repeat what you do, because it will stay stuck in the picture of what you could only see as wrong. Seeing wrongs doesn’t reveal rights.
Example. Some people see a certain style of appearance or mannerism as “wrong”, both in virtual worlds like Second Life and in real life, but this is only blinding. Usually, whatever ideas they have about that style, whatever it is, are the attitude of an outsider, usually xenophobic. They can’t tolerate their own foibles, so they project their hate feelings onto others, and thus no one involved can have any peace. If they permitted that person the freedom to choose to actually help or do some good, or harm and identify themselves as hostile, they would not need to worry about anything in particular. But people are so insecure that they sabotage everything in the name of control. They try to pre-emptively intercept anything they judge as bad.
So even if the behaviour is extreme and the outcome may not be welcome, the choice should be respected as should the consequence? Yes, and you should also respect your own right to choose, and not get hung up on their choice. No one is so wise that they are without mistakes, and pre-judging just makes your own mistakes happen that much faster. Forgiveness is not for someone else, it’s for you.
That’s still rationalizing/reacting with your programmed thought processes, not listing with your core or soul spiritually. Well, dedication to an ideal does help some people. What would your life be like if instead of working with your pre-judgements you operated from pre-forgiveness?
We’re influenced from a young age on morality and what is and isn’t right. Everyone needs to recognize their initial reaction to anything is already biased, then take a moment to stop thinking and feel it out. Easier said I suppose. Exactly.
Everyone is innocent until they show you that you must respond to them, then they are still innocent of anything regarding you. They can’t control you. Your response to whatever they do is none of their doing. Do you have to react in ways that are defined by them?
And really, most people are pretty predictable so we’re not surprised unless we’re in denial. The snake will bite you. It isn’t evil. It just does what is in its nature to do. What about you?
Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
