Let’s focus for a moment on resistance. Withholding. If a child reaches to me in fear and I reject them, what do I gain?
Nothing. So is it in my best interest to be cold? If an old person sits in hunger and I have more food than I ever need, but I won’t share with them, am I better off? Is there any way to better things in selfishness? Where does greed heal? Where does hate make strength? Never. I could look at past events and say that the world is hateful. I have plenty of reason to believe it. Being a “cripple” is no vacation friends.
But you can’t accept everybody. One day walking on the street you can meet ten people asking for help. Ah, yes you can. Accepting them is not interacting with them, and you can only help as you can. It isn’t wrong to help yourself first.
To accept them does not mean to let them into your life. We have limits. It is necessary. You are right.
Where do these limits become selfishness? What is your motive for the limit? Limits aren’t all the same. There are two limits, two types. Limits of function that are just physical fact, and limits of free choice.
I think they become selfish when you can, but you refuse to. If you can and betray no one, do you not betray yourself by refusal? You need not hurt yourself to help another. You don’t fail what you cannot do.
My limits are, for example, that I have my children and I have to help them first because it was my responsibility to put them on this earth. And for you to take food from your children to feed another would be wrong.
You help someone and you receive help, isn’t that something that society invented? No. Nature created it. Wolf packs, lion prides, bee hives, fish schools, dolphin pods.
If I don’t help someone I will receive bad things? If you don’t help someone, no, you will not receive bad things.
When you turn your back on someone in need, are they truly alone? Are you ever truly alone?
Yes, always. How is that possible? You come alone, you are alone and you go alone. Ah, so you are the one and only God? You come of yourself and live of yourself and go? You are your God? If I were my God, I would be in very bad shape.
I’m my own judge. Why are you that? Are you ennobled by being your own judge?
God is a judge. God is love, and God is life. I see no evidence that God is a judge. There was only one “judgement” God ever rendered “and it was good.”
Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
