We can perhaps call a familiar spirit if none have noticed us, and we can also select as well? One might not have the qualities I’m looking for. Yes, actually. If you want to connect more with say a primal force, you can open yourself to storm spirits. The progression of a familiar bond is like the progression of a friendship.
Do we always have a choice in this? Well, yes and no. You will attract these spirits that feel resonance or “something in common” with you. Different energy calls different familiars.
Mine must be the storm spirits or very unruly fairies? It is possible. The fairy have two courts, because it’s a broad world. Basically, they break down to the placid and playful, to the wild and sort of feral.
We can influence our energy, so we choose in that way? Humans need to get more proactive in this area, we’re far too passive? By deliberate intent, by making something your concern, your focus attunes you to the energy. The more intent the more attunement, until it’s like standing in their world.
For example. People may see the Kami in someone’s home, because she has shifted the energy of her home there. Kamis can shape shift, but they might not bother. Fairies can as well, as can elementals, really all of them. You really know them by behavior. Even an angel can be a familiar and they have been quite frequently, though in the case of spiritual stereotypes people are often surprised. The light realms, the dark realms, the nature realm, the primal elemental realm, they are all parts of a whole. And though you might not like some, they are part of an order that’s bigger than your thinking and feeling. They exist not by accident, but by a natural reflective balance.
Are they all in our interest or do some keep pulling us to the darker side? If they are pulling you to the darker side, it’s still the law of sympathy, and that dark pull is still what they believe you want. They believe, because your energy tells them so. They respond often to subconscious wants, and you might consciously say you don’t, but if you didn’t your energy would shift. If you go with Buddhism, Jainism, Hinduism, Native American Shamanism, even Shintoism, they are just creatures living according to the same pattern we are. They are just seen through a dark window or a brightly illuminated one.
Can animals have familiars too? Yes. This is how an animal often becomes the more classical familiar. The black cat that acts like it understands too much. The hunting dog that outthinks you. They are in a relationship with one of those spirits. They bond with them also. Brownies, a type of fairy, were considered to be quite fond of beasts of burden.
I need to read up on all these types of spirits, kamis, fairies, and such. All spirits are spirits. The knowledge is just for your understanding.
I was amazed to read about familiar spirits and the orthodox church called them all demons. The only spirit they think you should welcome is God and the other are evil. But in fact, the original teaching regarding familiar spirits was that the angels were made as a little lower than man and as helpers to him. Sort of “elementals’ of the great fire, and many are even described in that way as beings of flame, lesser lights.
Storm spirits really sound amazing. Ah yes. The Native American thunder bird is like the phoenix. There are many, but what you are moved to read on you are moved to for a reason. Trust your instinct in research. They tend to want to be seen.
Can you tell me a good source to read about them? It is so very broad you would need to know what order of spirit you wanted to know about. There are many disciplines; ritual theurgy, demonology, old lore like in witchcraft, Native American Shamanism. Any path that has the seeker dealing directly with the spirits, Shintoism, Voodoo. You can get to know the Laos.
May you and any attendant spirits either go or linger in peace.
Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
