Learn, Grow, Change

Both streams of consciousness can learn. They both grown and change, evolve with the experiences of the person.

Part of a soldier’s training is overriding those “animal” senses and following orders. Overriding danger. Yes, the animal consciousness can’t anticipate how to avoid being shelled, not normally.

It’s part of corporate training too.

So yes, visualize two flowing streams if you will, flowing side by side, but in separate river beds. As the weather changes and the earth shifts, these streams will change the broad nature of their behaviour. They have even confirmed now that glial cells play a part in exerting functional control over neurons. They can in theory block synapses temporarily just like a boulder might block a stream for a time.

The general character of these two streams is noticeably different. The top down or conscious stream is sort of frozen, crystallized, and everything it absorbs gets fit in like a puzzle piece. It works sort of like math. It is even perhaps why neuroscientists are trying to identify and define a lexicon for neural function.

As in computer programming, fitting in modules, etc. Exactly. Your own patterns may be more free form, more artistic in a sense, but they are still concrete, codified.

This is probably why computer programming is like that. The top down process made it. Exactly.

Maybe that is what brain fog is, patterns in free form chaos. Actually, no. I will describe the stream of consciousness that actually emerges during brain fog.

The animal or naturalistic stream of consciousness (one they say some autistics function primarily in) is fast, rapid and almost formless, a stream of sensation and emotions and reactive impulses with clear perceptions bobbing up sporadically like sticks caught in the rapids. You can see an example of what living like this would be like in animal behaviour.

Perhaps an example? Ever notice how pets often seem to pause for long periods of time? Or freeze like a deer caught in the headlights as they say?

Yes, like cats. But then they suddenly react, and have a large complex reaction to whatever is going on. The more memories the animal or naturalistic stream of consciousness strings together, the more complex a behaviour you will have.

Run rapidly to a random room? That would be one.

Well, this occurs in humans also. Which stream do you think would be the best at making sure you remember to do something?

Since we often forget when we try to remember, I’ll guess bottom up? Yes, our normal stream of consciousness is what tends to lead us to believe we already did whatever it was, or to filter out what isn’t immediately relevant even though it will be necessary very soon.

Perhaps enough description of mental process. Should we get down to revelation?

Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
