Love IMHO

The Bible tells us to love our neighbors, and also to love our enemies; probably because they are generally the same people. G. K. Chesterton

Why People Are Like That Today: What is love if it doesn’t distinguish between individuals? It seems to be a rare and precious experience. To generalize it into a rule of conduct would seem to subtract rather than add to its meaning. If love really is meant to be used as a problem solving strategy, then why aren’t conflicts between the individual and their neighbor easily resolved?

To date our views of our passions and convictions often cheapens the experience of being who it is that we genuinely are. We do no one any favors by pretending to hold feelings and beliefs that don’t emerge from us naturally. We betray any trust, that might form, the moment we apply an arbitrary rule to that interpersonal interaction.

So instead let us respect each other enough to behave as the people we really are and to react in the way we really feel. Let us surrender the program that is these rules of order and the cold, heartless utopia they are meant to lead to, and instead embrace the empathy that arises from expressing our authentic living, feeling, selves.

In My Humble Opinion. What’s yours?
