Renewed Focus

Focus is seen as very important. People will do a lot to gain and keep focus and at the same time also undermine focus. Seems like a very in and out thing, does it not? Is it that focus is innately unstable, or is it our focusing behaviour that does this to us?

Our tolerance level is low for it? We need short intervals? That’s part, but the human mind is very resilient. This is why some people can sustain a single point of focus without any seeming interruption, or at least seem to. They just renew focus continuously. How does anyone renew their focus ever?

Desire? Really that and nothing more, thus the concept of ones “Heart not being in it” being so common.

Breathing? The most primal desire is to breath. What most people call desire is usually distorted versions of otherwise natural drives.

Directed attention? Attention is inherently directed. This is its nature. In fact, people who speak about having limited attention span are not actually talking about their potential for attention, they are talking about their quality of focus.

We can all center. There is a state called by many names, peace, poise, center, enlightenment. It’s readily available because it’s part and parcel of our being. Why is it so hard to find it seems?

Because we believe in order to have focus we have to fight ourselves? Yes, and thus we struggle to focus. Fight yourself and you lose no matter what, but you have a focus and it is definable. You only have so much time and energy to do anything in a day.

Those ideas of “should” get us messed up again. Also true. There is no objective measure of what one should do beyond perhaps those activities that sustain your life, or that of an offspring or dependant family member.

Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
