Today, we are talking about dualism, specifically the conceptual separation between mind and matter.
Paradox is in itself a duality, considered paradoxical because of the single truth that unifies the apparent opposites. How many people pride themselves in being a rational thinker? Logical?
At times.
I do.
Well, more or less logical — at least when I try to write computer code.
I am at work.
It only seems natural to make the distinction between what happens in your mind and what happens in the world around you, yes?
I’m not sure why? It’s magical thinking. There is no concrete let alone scientific basis to believe that your thoughts have any separate being or substance from the environment. The distinction between your thoughts and your sensory input is from one point of view illusory. Thoughts on that?
It aligns with manifestation principles.
It makes sense that thought and the environment interact.
Perhaps all “separation” is illusion — a by-product of our naming stuff.
Actually, it doesn’t make any sense scientifically. Scientifically, there is no thought to have a relationship with the environment, just the ongoing chain reaction of energy observed in the same way whether it’s in the brain or in the space around you.
Now most people will deny this. Tell me if you feel otherwise, but all thought is connective. It isn’t possible to make genuine distinctions between things in thought.
Without input from the senses, your brain has a hard time functioning. Actually, blind, deaf and otherwise insensate your brain would function normally performing the only functions it ever does with only minor compromise. Few pathways shut down. They would get diverted to other purposes, vivid engagement with other mental processes.
Why is isolated confinement such a punishment? Solitary is such a punishment because it amplifies the pattern of tensions that are always active in the human brain. It makes the individuals mind get too loud. There was an ancient monastic tradition, before the advent of anything like the modern prison, that was effectively solitary confinement and would be pursued for years at a time.
So for someone used to thinking a lot, it wouldn’t be a punishment at all? It isn’t simply about thought content. It’s more an issue of thought stress patterns and intensity of emphasis, and any unbalanced mind would become even more so.
One might tend toward obsession…
Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
