We are nothing more than the minds reach away from the elements. The minds reach away from our own bodies and our minds obey us. But we forget we aren’t what we think we are, we just are. Thinking serves a purpose, but our purpose isn’t defined by thought.
Myself, I am rather “fiery” and regrettably a lot of ideas get linked to fire. It is warmth and comfort. It’s intense and can stimulate visions as the pattern of light makes your visual center relax into cascading signals. It can also render barren or overgrown land more fertile and healthy.
Can it be accessed directly? Yes it can, but not by an act of will. It’s something you permit. But in this day and age fire is most automatically associated with evil. No thinking, just fear. Not even engagement of fear.
When you have a chance to be near a fire (perhaps you have a fireplace), let it fill your gaze. Let it dazzle you as it did when you were a child. Next time you aren’t in the adult hurry, gaze at clouds and don’t try to understand. The deepest understandings come quite naturally when we aren’t trying to understand. When you don’t try, you do.
There is a Buddhist meditation called sky meditation and a fire meditation too. A Buddhist sect even performs a baptism ritual that amounts to mud wrestling. The obvious baptism in water, baptism by earth, by water, and fire. Also in Tantra there are fire rituals, fire puja. Fire is plasma, energized gasses. We can do these rituals for ourselves at will, even if maybe in a less elaborate way. Feel the elements within us.
Would you consider fire more primal than say water, or are they all equal? Well they do seem to form a continuum. Even the elements are cyclical. We can look at science. The world, the universe, started in fire and the circle goes both ways.
The universe started in fire, that’s a bold statement? It is scientifically established as much as anything can be established and was intuited even before astro physics. Also in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God and was God. It was the Holy Spirit, or Ruach, which is symbolized by the tongue of flame. The presence of God was shown to the Nation of Israel as a pillar of fire.
Science even exists because it’s in a sense on fire. All things in chemistry have fire as the basis of any chemical breakdown or synthesis. As that song goes “my worlds on fire, how ’bout yours? That’s the way I like it and I’ll never get bored“. Life itself resists stasis. If it’s not growing it’s falling apart. The inner fire that lets us know we are alive.
Let’s all just roll in the mud, fall into the water, dry in the air, and be consumed by fire. Yes, sounds good to me.
Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
