Choice in Events

If we must attribute power to events and the mechanics of life, then this suggests it is then a rule, does it not? If it’s not a rule then maybe the mechanics as we see them aren’t seen clearly?

If events have power, they arise from cause and effect. Look over any community and there is a discernable pattern, a rhythm. Not infinite choices, not on the large scale, just something much like neural switching. So if circumstances have power on their own, then that is what we have.

My statement is not a condemnation of anyone in depression from these circumstances, it’s an effort to show a liberation from that. The power of the circumstance is your own power. People see the world and say that is bigger than me. In fact, the truth is that situation, whatever it is, is you. You are there because of your part in the greater spirit of the world.

We are more than choices. I pursue the study of thought with a passion. What thought cannot account for is pure awareness and the volition that arises from that. We are more than the sum of our choices, and from that thoughtless place ultimately all choices are moved. If you choose purely from thought, very, very often your choice will be undone.

Some speak in favour of the consensus, and working with it to transcend it. In my experience, this doesn’t seem possible. Not purely from the context of that consensus reality. It doesn’t allow for the concepts that would allow it to be transcended.

One aspect of the consensus is for us to shy away from absolutes. How will the world end if we speak with certainty? But that ambiguity is praised. It is seen as a view of intelligence. I would say that the intelligent person will entertain an absolute for the sake of the experience. Then refute it if their experience contradicts it. Even in science a definite hypothesis must be stated for any testing to begin.

‘The mark of an educated mind is to entertain a thought without accepting it’, Aristotle. The word educate is of that era and means to draw out. Nothing is drawn out if nothing is ever entertained, is it?

Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
