Shall we go into dream shaping? Actually, dream lighting. Let’s do that first.
Dream light is psychic energy. The more vivid a dream seems, the more of your personal psychic energy is invested in that part of your mind, and you don’t have much control of how this energy is distributed. The conscious use of energy is just a small portion of what the brain actually uses.
The reason you can dream, of such strange things and situations, is you aren’t consciously aware of what your mind finds attention getting. Your mind doesn’t only react to what you yourself invest meaning in. We are hard wired to be social creatures. So your mind also reacts to things that other people have emotional weight invested in, and when these show up in your dream, it can be hard to make conscious sense of them. If you hear someone say something harsh to their kid, though you might not consciously have paid any attention to it, and might tell people you don’t really care that it happened, this will still register in your dream life anyway, and it will bear the body language/personality fingerprint of the other person involved.
So yes, dream lighting. Vividness tells you how close to your core consciousness any dream experience is. For most people this is infrequent. A combination of conscious attitudes, and general fatigue from living a confusing and emotionally draining life during the day, tends to keep us in the shallow end as far as crossover into conscious awareness goes. But the dreaming is going on all the time.
The first step to dream shaping is simply recognizing the subconscious or intuitive weight things around you have for you. You can start with obvious things. Your favourites list is generally easy, but you will find that many things that wouldn’t go on your favourites list, or on your most disliked list, still have a surprising amount of weight to them in your attention and feel strangely more present to you than it seems they should.
I guess our dreaming selves don’t prioritize. Actually, they do. They take everything personally, and this arranges your dream experience around you in a way that seems like proximity while you dream. Less important becomes more generic and vague, indistinct shapes and uncertain voices. Closer in has more details, but sometimes psychic energy sparks out even to those remote reaches of association.
Like the generic person vs. the person we knew back in school. Indeed.
Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
