Our Place in the Moment

Any great truth, the most powerful truths, are in fact very simple and often even a child shows an understanding of them. They make us laugh and say “aw, how cute”, and often we ignore them also. This is regrettable to my mind.

Children can find joy in the simplest things, why supposedly do we not? Why is growing up supposedly just becoming a greyface? Too many overlook the simple things and forget how to laugh. Honestly, the complex things are the most absurd. It’s the simple things we should take the most seriously. Even the raging idiot you might meet on your bad day is acting on truth.

Each has their own relationship to shared truths. There is a saying that a wise person is not knowledgeable and a knowledgeable person is not wise. To be knowledgeable you have to break things down, look at things independently, and then declare “I know this”. In fact, that isn’t useless, but the person who comes to identify with their knowledge fails to see that these little things lose meaning. That they exist for a reason that has nothing to do with the thing itself, and they forget to laugh. They take their knowledge seriously.

Most of our wrong doing doesn’t stem from our lack of wisdom. It stems from a belief that we know and that others may not. The world isn’t like that. There are many minds for a reason.

I think of all that is going on (political agendas, etc.), all these things that are supposedly so world shakingly important, and I have to laugh. Life is important, not agendas. Right now is important. Five years from now? Who knows? It will depend on how you spend your now and your next now. But people run around worrying about what they are supposed to do. What’s expected of them. What will earn them power or respect. Don’t these seem at least a bit silly?

Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
