Perhaps further elaboration will better serve. I have done a lot of teaching on a lot of different practices. They come in all colors and forms, and we each share our own special gift with the world. Someone who brings red is ill served and negated when they try to conform to a standard of green. We need the natural greens and the natural reds, but we judge practices, and provide little guidance for connecting the materials to the soul.
The Navajo shaman, after he has gathered all those earths, those sand samples, those weeds, after all that mess is gathered, the shaman brings it all together in a sand painting. A depiction of the state of the spirit world in that place and at that time, and then proceeds to act on this image. Only after, removing the image entirely, dispersing it to the four winds. It having served its purpose and needing to return to the world it was taken from. Why do we persist? Repetition = practice. To exist is to practice.
Now should an artist who has country music in their heart perform other things?
Only if he or she is called to it. Yes. Sometimes, the form of our practice changes. The spirit can shape shift. For some, a hybrid of venues serves, but is the heart split?
The idea of practicing until perfection is misguided. Practicing to perfection means practicing yourself to death, because we still live through repetition. Perfection is the finish. What we can do is practice to synchrony. Practice to a point of harmony with the world.
Can an alto sing tenor and keep in harmony? Or a baritone sing soprano?
There are ways to make him do that. It still won’t make him be in harmony. It will come out a soprano screech. I have been singing off key myself.
I’ve never heard of a singer that can sing all ranges. They can’t and aren’t meant to.
I offer what I do as one friend to another, one peer to another, one seeker to another. I need some feedback on people’s practices, so that I might be able to better serve and talk about common ground.
Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
