Neuroscientists are very proud of an idea they have discovered in the domain of regular thinking. You have no free will.
In normal thinking, you have what they call free won’t. You can seem to exercise choice by omitting some element of your thought pattern. But the thought pattern keeps its original shape no matter whether you choose to omit that choice of behavior or not.
“Oh, I can’t do this, this and this, so I’ll do this.” Something like that? Basically. Does this not accurately describe the normal thought process?
That’s fundamental negative thinking yet totally true.
Process of elimination.
So, the geography of the “options” remains, regardless of whether you choose one of the options or not? In normal circumstances, yes. It’s like having a body that is perfectly healthy and sensitive to everything, and yet at the same time completely paralyzed. This doesn’t have to be the case. The whole landscape of perception is just like your body. Each idea a sensitive neuron. You don’t have to touch the hot stove with your hand if you realize where your hand is in the space around the stove. You don’t have to be confined to any particular pattern of thought or emotion if you realize what thought and emotion actually are.
Realize and be conscious of my emotional weight I’m giving things? That’s just the start, but it’s a good start. That is feeling your psychic heartbeat, and it’s a good way to begin to feel your limbs.
We have a choice about whether to become (or remain) obsessed with something? Indeed. People just perhaps don’t understand what making that choice involves. What kind of work it takes to free your limb to move a different way. There is a strong need for psychic physiotherapy.
Is an epiphany basically seeing the gaps? It is indeed.
Every notice your sense of touch is more sensitive when your pulse is pounding?
And other senses like sight and hearing. Yes. Starting from that emotional heart, that core of psychic energy, you can deliberately get it working. Perhaps in meditation, maybe artistic expression, even athletic experimentation. The key is that you must be challenging your normal state of mind.
Immersion in full experience? Yes. With practice you can learn to do this at will.
Like being in the zone when creating? Yes. The flow is the circulation of your psychic energy, and when you learn to keep that circulation going, then anything you perceive will change. It’s like the blind having their sight restored, or the deaf their hearing.
New ideas jump out at you? Well, old ideas take on new contours, and because they do you begin to see a new context for all ideas, a space between all ideas, all experiences, and the full range over which your perception can work.
Is that like enlightenment? Or at least a step that way? Perhaps a step that way.
I wonder if landscape artists might find this an everyday experience. They have that potential, yes, but some fall into the trap of realism. They learn to reproduce landscapes they see without picking up on the strange things this exploration triggers in their awareness. In the name of realism, they eliminate reality.
Literalism. Yes. Substituting literalism, also known as storytelling, or normal thought.
Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
