Collective Purpose

It’s said there are only six degrees of separation between any two people. Even if this isn’t literally true, it raises a point.

Reality is a vast web of relationships, but we don’t all relate to everything the same. We aren’t supposed to. It is not our purpose.

Some things we are connected to in a primary way, and other things we relate to second hand. This is natural and it isn’t wise or “holy” to resist this. While some things might be in my primary experience, for you it may be second hand, and part of my purpose is to connect you to it. Even if we are both connected to a thing primarily, both directly connected, my purpose can be to see that same thing in a different way, and share that with you. Together our collective purposes give life meaning.

Like stories around the fire? Very much so, but expressed in countless ways, told, shown, spoken, lived. We are to do all of it, but a wall is only as strong as the space it defines. A thing has a purpose for both what it is and what it is not. As the Taoists say, something is valuable for what it is and useful for what it is not.

The important part of a cup is the part that isn’t there. Exactly.

I am trying to find an example of opposing wills being mutually beneficial. Can you offer one? Oh, that’s easy. Yes. My wife and I are a living example of that. She is very orderly, constructive, sees potentials in things. I am very de-constructive. I see how things break apart. I see the end of any endeavour and she sees the beginning. I see “fate” and she sees hope, and we both see the truth. She the light and I the shadow. It’s the same tree and the same sun.

Opposition can be conscious creation? That’s beautiful. Yes, and can arise from natural purpose. Just seemingly opposed natures being willing to be harmonious. Because life and reality actually has no contradictions, just the seemingly paradoxical.

Sometimes I help her by showing her she is done, can stop, or that the fight has ended. That there is a failure, but that is really ok. You don’t want to succeed at everything. That would make life a living hell. If people succeeded at everything we would all be dead, literally.

Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
