In The Egyptian Book of the Dead, they speak of death as a journey. One of the signs on that path is a mirror. The path is a mirror. You grow in the way you are, not in the way you are told you are.
Many dogmas stunt people, trap them. This is regrettable, but they never really leave the path if they got on it. They just depart those practices. Has anyone experienced this? But they say you can’t go backwards. You can’t unsee the road ahead.
Dogma is attachment in the Buddhist sense. Whatever you focus on gets into your subconscious mind. Creeps up when you try to meditate. When relaxed you tend to think that way. Fear and hope are tools of most dogmatic teaching.
It’s my own experience that nothing is ever as wonderful as you would hope or as terrible as you would fear. The still point between opposites is the resolution of paradox. I think really this perception of balance, as Taoists refer to it, is what all spiritual paths seek. The transcendent way. The pervasive wisdom. The truth that transcends binary thinking. Sort of having your cake and eating it too.
An example of balance. Have you ever gotten so mad that you just lost any energy to be mad with? Or so sorrowful that you mind just emptied of its own? Everything in life swings back around. Life is a cycle and when we try to block this flow, like blocking the water cycle, we create our own suffering. What many mistake for balance is in fact stasis. What happens when blood flow stops? They say this is my practice and I will never do other. Maybe not on purpose, but it occurs to them.
The other side of stasis, its paradoxical element, is homeostasis. The need to maintain balance. They say that to even stay the same requires change. What do you think my friends?
