Knowing Your Triggers

Do you want the keys to the doors of your own perception?

Ever notice how long an experience can linger with you? Like say how long a song can remain stuck in your head? Ever wonder why that happens or how?

I have. Most commonly it happens when you were in an inhibitory state, deeply submerged in habitual experience which leaves you highly suggestible.

Yes, that seems to be the case.

When you hear that song, it touches the right pre-existing buttons in your brain. Provides that right emotional stimuli, or displays an attractively symmetrical rhyme scheme, and your brain snaps it right up. It uses it as a template for its functioning in the moment like it might with the music you’re listening to during an exercise session.

People that make good commercials always add catchy music or the slogan of course. I’m the man your man could smell like.

Your brain tries to use and apply something that makes so much sense to it. All something has to do to make sense to your brain is display a high amount of pattern matching, conform to your expectations enough that it doesn’t annoy you. That extra little element that doesn’t conform is novel. It’s enough to alter your behaviour, becomes magnified till you act on it with either an approach or avoidance response.

Sounds like a great way to manipulate people.

So the first key is knowing your approach and avoidance triggers which generalize all throughout your brain as symbols, fetishes. You have both positive and negative fetishes. Revulsion has just as much impact as lust does which reminds me…

Side note, something I missed earlier, was what science has learned about their own stress doctrine. They have found the old stress doctrine to be a self fulfilling prophecy. If you believe that stress will hurt you, then they can actively observe as it hurts you. If you do not believe that stress hurts you, then though stress still occurs, the body and brain react to it differently. You can either be distressed about stress or simply motivated by it with totally different biological outcomes.

Be bigger than your fears and worries. You can be bigger than your fears and worries, but you can’t be bigger than what you believe.

Yea, there are people who work better under stress. Though even that conditioning is a limitation they would be better off not being confined to. They can come to be stress addicts, deliberately creating it to experience that performance edge and usually impairing the performance of other people around them.

I sometimes think my husband is a stress addict. He likes challenges and also likes complaining about challenges. They know the neuroscience behind that as well. Stress uniformly triggers an oxytocin release in the brain which stimulates the social network in our brain making social awareness and behaviour stronger and stand out more. So stress makes us compelled to talk or emote. Unfortunately for me, because of my nervous system abnormalities, I wind up talking a lot and to my embarrassment.

Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
