We have survived as long as we have not for our normal humans. They tend to function sort of like deer caught in headlights. They just stand confused or just keep doing what they are doing. We have survived because some of our kind had natural traits so strong they couldn’t conform to our unnatural ideas and prejudices.
The big mystery of entitlement is that no one “deserves” anything, not any more or any less than any other person. In the natural way, we would all enjoy both privileges and responsibilities more or less equally.
So our society as a whole is running counter to our biological instinct? Yes, and this is why so many cultures have crumbled. None have survived intact as they originally were. They had to radically restructure themselves to improve the machine of control, but it is still doomed to break no matter what. Because to paraphrase Taoism, “That which goes against the Tao (natural way) cannot stand.”
How to know the way of Tao in our daily minds? The way of Tao in the mind is the way of the senses, the way of wholeness and healing, the way of awareness that is behind all of what we call “thinking”. That state people get in when you ask them “What are you thinking?” and they respond “Nothing.”
Why is it societies that start off with the idea of entitlement for the masses evolve to have wealth in the hands of the few? Do we give away our entitlement because we don’t exercise it? There are two reasons for what you ask about. The problem is not with there being a privileged few. The problem is with the gap between the privileged few and the masses. The gap between men who are fewer in number, and women who are the mothers of every human being on this planet.
But nature acts so often otherwise than supporting, people too. Nature doesn’t support humanity only. To nature, humanity is not the most important species, and they are growing less acceptable as their rapacious attitudes grow more and more pronounced.
