You can revere the heros of our history who otherwise often lead sordid lives and will avoid any loss of faith because you are seeing the truth. The sacred is here in this life that you may have judged profane.
Have you much experience of yourself when you aren’t doing anything? If so, what is that like for you?
I think a lot. Thinking counts as doing something so it blocks out individual awareness. Does the self go away when you aren’t busy being yourself?
When I’m not doing anything? I think even when I’m dead, I’m doing something. My soul is floating about somewhere. You are being something or you are doing something. They don’t differ functionally, but they do differ organizationally and have long term functional impact.
My teacher told us to sit and watch strong emotions, so I did that once when I was upset, and after about ten minutes I felt really calm with a feeling of well-being. That is a moment of individual awareness.
People are not what they think they are, but what they think … they are. We don’t act only when the body acts. That’s not when an event begins, and we are not the product of events that we have experienced. We are the producer of our experience, but somehow this circuit gets shorted out. How is that?
Habits form? Yes, as a form of psychic abscess. A tumour in the mind like a grain of sand trapped deep in a clams shell. It might become a pearl of wisdom, but more likely it will just contribute to the red tide. Habits are also called memes. Units of conscious culture that are reproduced between individuals even subconsciously, like the idea that Angelina Jolie is sexually attractive. Honestly, I find her appearance somewhat bizarre, but that statement of thought is still in my head much as it is in all of yours.
The list of thoughts go on and on and have nothing to do with our individual awareness. It happens before you see or hear anything. It’s the precursor to noticing anything you see or understanding anything you hear. Ever notice how much you miss when you aren’t ready for it?
Yes. I miss game winning goals when I stop paying attention to the game. You actually miss them earlier. You miss them when your awareness slips. This happens before your visual attention is turned away.
Your individual awareness is like a body, and most people are down right anorexic on this level.
