Spirituality in the Blogosphere by Jane Smith

The blogosphere isn’t necessarily the first place you’d think to get a dose of spirituality. Blogs more than anything else are usually a source of alternate or additional income and usually take practical matters for their subject, often offering consultations and other products for their readers.

As secular and monetized as many blogs are, however, there are a surprising number of blogs about spirituality in the blogosphere, some monetized and some not, that offer guidance, community, and release for the writers and their readers.

What explains this? Why would spiritual writers and readers want to connect over the internet? Why use a blog to enter into conversation?

Blogs can be an extremely personal method of communication. The blog’s roots lie in journaling, so it isn’t a great leap to understand what about it appeals to a spiritual soul. Blogs give writers the opportunity to share their thoughts, their difficulties, and their beliefs in an environment that supports and nourishes it, in addition to giving feedback.

Spirituality is an ever-changing, ever-evolving pursuit, and can take believers through challenges more intense than anything in the secular world. Sometimes it is helpful and restorative to our belief to have a community of similarly-minded people with whom we can share our burdens.

Expressing your thoughts on a blog and publishing them on the web also sends out energy into the universe and attracts answers. Sometimes those answers come in the form of a comment, and sometimes the answer manifests in the author’s very writing as a divine revelation.

Because spirituality is part creativity and part community, a blog is a medium well-suited to it. Seeking to understand your spirituality takes work and creativity, but that alone will often not bring the kind of clarity that comes with discussion.

In our fragmented world, the blogosphere helps to connect spiritual people by providing a platform that is universal and supportive, where people are free to grow spiritually and help others grow at the same time.
