The Watchers

This will bore you or blow your mind.

It’s a very old universe. It’s older than the advent that lead to its current state, the bringing of fire as it shows up in many myths, and it will last beyond any cosmic collapse.

For most beings, the universe is not singular, nor separated. The human concept of a veil between planes of existence is seen as, well, immature. It gets crossed from time to time. The entity humans call the Mothman, the Sasquatch people, well… The list is countless.

Most entities don’t find earth especially interesting, so come and linger only for a brief time, then move on. Mostly humans never see this, but they were caught more often early in human history. The parades of the shining ones, the flight of the Garuda, the weird storm effect of the serpent people… Again, the list goes on and on.

The Watchers that are known in human experience are not a single people. They constitute multiple “species” (for lack of a better term) who have as one of their centers of activity, earth. The science that humanity now practices is backward by comparison to the Elders. The Elders being the ancestors of humanity. Humanity is a very young species, and morphogenetically pretty simple yet. The Watchers originally tried to intervene. To uplift humanity to what they felt its potential could be, though not all tribes among the Watchers are what we would call virtuous.

What is the flight of the Garuda? The Garuda is a mythical bird said to be capable of devouring the world. It is from the legends of ancient India. Roughly the equivalent of Nidhog in Norse belief. The dragon gnawing at the roots of the world tree. People think of the world tree as just being the planet, but in fact, it symbolizes the structure of the universe itself, and on that… Wormholes do get traveled. Reality exists as a mesh of possibilities. The time space bubble that this reality exists in is a narrow phenomenon, though not unique in the multiverse.

It’s like the shadows of peoples fears consuming all life? Actually, no. There are beings that exist in such a way that they universe hop. They tend to be predatory, and barring some sort of protective action being taken, can strip a universe of all life. Fortunately, most beings value life other than their own kind. This is one of the duties of the Watchers in relationship to earth. They stand watch against the outsiders. Admittedly, I am having to translate a lot. Sorry if it’s a bit awkward.

Typhon was an outsider and Tiamat was the last outsider to have nested in our region of the multiverse. It was the Watchers who gene banked Tiamat to re-seed earth. When one of the more ravenous beasts clears a universe, they recover material from it.

How does that reseed the earth? With ravenous dragons? Actually yes, but the first children of Tiamat were arthropods. Arthropods are insect like creatures. The thunder lizards came later. The rise of mammalian life was an interesting variable and wasn’t really anticipated.

Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
