You can learn from good things. It requires a different skill set maybe. Today’s culture doesn’t teach us. It teaches us to solve problems. To look for issues and “fix” that.
Now the method of trance induction actually does matter, and your favourite trance induction method will shape every other experience you have. If you favour Buddhist meditation techniques, everything will look Buddhist. If you favour dancing to techno music under whirling laser light, everything will look like a “rave.”
We see the world as we are, not as it is? Exactly.
If you favour the World of Warcraft, it’s all a quest. Yes, exactly. So whatever method you choose determines what reality will behave like for you.
The journey through the Costco is a big quest. You even sometimes use your sword of decisive speech.
Experience is the mirror of your daily trance method. You chose, if not consciously, some key concepts and symbols, and your feelings about these and your intention regarding them built up the rhythm that eventually became your daily trance. For some people coffee is a mantra. Coffee, newspaper, phone calls, and even when they aren’t actually doing these activities, they still recite the list in their head. Coffee, newspaper, phone call. For all intents and purposes, that is their entire reality. Is this unfair to say?
I ponder the “entire reality” of persons who are incarcerated and how their trances happen. Even they fall into a trance. It is largely social, but physical as well. It becomes rather elemental because of the stark restrictions of their behaviour.
What does it mean if you feel the trance is a rut that needs to change? Time for a new trance? Indeed. We are sort of like hermit crabs in our trance shells. We do slowly outgrow them.
Now a very simple model of trance work versus just staying in your trance. Think of your daily to-do list, coffee, newspaper, phone calls say, and let that drone on. Then suddenly “BUDDHA , BUDDHA, BUDDHA!”
The reason I typed the word Buddha like that is because injecting the foreign repetition registers to your mind as if it has greater volume. It’s a disruption, and heightens your attention to actually being aware and in the trance.
