Today we are discussing masks. What are masks?
A disguise of our identity.
I must admit, the first mask that springs to mind now is this “V” for vendetta one. That’s a pretty meaningful one right now, and will likely become more so.
A different face. A way to hide or change face. They can be both protective and harmful.
It can be a physical thing, or way of acting.
For Superman, it’s just a pair of glasses. His mask is mostly psychological. He has a mask of normality being the fact that he looks human. I do too, but if you looked at the microstructure, I look really weird.
I think Superman’s whole superhero is a mask for Clark Kent. He is sure no one likes him, but they love Superman. That is a truth, yes. Truth is often paradoxical like that.
If you act differently, people will actually ignore you. If you look down a lot and don’t talk, you can get overlooked and forgotten quite easily.
All are excellent lines of thought. What if I told you that you have no reality beyond your masks?
Our bodies mask our soul. Every expression our face makes is a mask.
So we are always trying to be something to someone, and if we stop, then we have no identity? You are always trying to be something to yourself. There is always someone watching, and you might not be the most generous spectator you know.
Our conscience, the thought that someone is watching us, is actually our higher selves looking down on us and judging? Hmmm, actually, you’re looking at your higher self and judging, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.
We need to be capable of intelligible thought. In every situation, in every environment, you adapt or adopt a persona which is just another word for mask. You have to. When you are working to produce a meal, you have to adopt the mask of cook. When you are piloting your car, you have to adopt the mask of driver. When you are interacting with your child, you have to adopt the mask of parent.
Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
