I live a life without burden, which doesn’t mean I am no burden to others. To offer my ugly side on the chance it may have worth, I am not adequately able to read other peoples subtle messages, those instinctive signals that make people feel so uneasy around each other. Because I cannot really see these things, my mental faculties are instead taken up with other observations. This is perhaps what allows me some novelty of thought.
I see contradictions in human behavior. I see it play out over time in their world. I see how one person’s force of will distorts another, even to the point of distorting their body language and facial expressions, and have come to a point where I can read the activity in an area based on what patterns of social tension I am seeing between people around me. I don’t actually understand why. I don’t experience the feelings these people are experiencing, and sometimes it’s hard to have empathy for them, but I can see it as sure as I can see a storm brewing in the sky.
Burden is like those storm clouds, and right now the world seems set on heading toward a flood. The weight of human institutions and ideals, prejudices and social fads, these serve as a destructive force. I see it in people’s faces every day. Subtle little ticks, strange skips in their gaze as they take in the space around them, even weird fluctuations of vocal tone that just scream of how each moment is a pain for them to experience.
The only good you have to offer is your own good. The only good you can really receive is your own good. You may witness others, but you can only utilize what you understand, and you only really understand yourself. But you understand that only if you decide that it is worth understanding.
Between us, we create the only real substance humanity can experience. It peeks out sometimes in media and industry, sometimes even in politics, but how often does that happen? Sometimes it even shows up in religion. It takes a truly humble disciple to transcend dogma though. To live the spirit of the creed rather than the simple letter
What kind of event would show you the spirit? Someone understanding what it is to give. Giving is not a burden. True activity of any worth is a giving. You have to do it and let it stand for what it is in the world. Giving is validating yourself.
Giving is being selfish to yourself? I don’t mean sacrificing. If I am there for a friend in need, how have I betrayed myself? When do the meaningful times in your life happen? While you are all alone?
You have validated your friends need to be with you, because you see what they see in you. When you see what they see in you, then you see the entire world. Those moments can be more common.
So, perhaps in closing, my point hasn’t been to disrespect anyone’s world view, or to invalidate any of their struggles. I only meant to offer a simple point of reference. If life is burden then Atlas will inevitably weep, but if life is the place where you live, then even the biggest challenges will leave no lasting scars.
Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
