Now we get to thinking. The end of the line in the couriers route from the world to our waking minds.
You think that everything you have been taught, everything that has ever been said or done to you, has to be kept in mind at all costs. We must not ever forget the hurts heaped on our heads. We must not ever disdain the place made for us or carved out by us in the world, or so normal thinking goes. But even your thinking dreams… Do your memories ever seem quite the same the next time they come to mind?
They don’t. They are molded. Does your childhood seem as scary or frustrating now as it did back then?
Nope. They are molded, and it might seem that they are molded by what you learned, right?
I totally agree. We make it “acceptable” by us. Your memories are shaped, as much by what you forget, as what you learn. We think we get a handle on the experiences we have had by learning new things, but in fact, we just as often forget things that we mistaken or rarely encountered, that just don’t come up often enough to keep their meaning. And do we consciously choose to do that?
No. But it happens, just like our dreaming happens, and happens for the same reason our dreaming happens. In dreams, our memories return to us in new and complex forms as we have no control over what something “reminds” us of do we? So in dreams, whatever it was reminds us of everything it reminds us of, everything it’s related to, which is primarily summarized in the form and role of a person or a place.
The dream is going on while you are too busy thinking, and the dream shapes your thinking in what connections there are in the world around you. It’s the dream that nature set up for you. When old age or senility set in, it’s the dream you will return to. It’s where you came from also, in infancy.
Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
