Fae Wyrd

In our world, there is a whole class of magic, commonly called charms, that humans learned from or adapted from their contact with Fae. Just as they can use the forces of their earth to affect ours, we can often access the same forces or imitate their work with the energies of our world. This is the origin of what is sometimes called “hedge” witchcraft in our world. The old rhymes and charms that women used to practice, though they wouldn’t have called themselves witches. Women being very intuitive and generally were seen as equals, or had a chance to be seen that way.

Is there a reason why fewer men practice such magic? They don’t generally do it as well, or they just cause themselves bad luck. But the Fae often see human males as beasts of burden. That’s how they perceive the role of human males in the human realm.

I can see why Fae often fall in love with human males. Fae are very nurturing. That’s written into their genetics, for lack of a better term. What they have that fills our role of genetics is called wyrd. The wyrd sisters, as you may have heard, are their midwifes among other things.

They feel compassion even if it means risking their own safety. The man could be violent, but their drive to help would over ride their fear. Some might call it very foolish, but it’s physically impossible for a Fae to ignore a cry for help. That’s how I portray my Fae in roleplay. It doesn’t matter if the cry might be a trap. They are very psychically sensitive. This is why they often despise human swearing or cheating. The energy generated by a human mind when they have lied, or when they cuss, is like spiting in their faces. This is also why they typically do not like the Christian faith. Hypocrisy generates the same energy.

In most parallel earths, psychic sensitivity is more a rule than a supposed gift, and their senses are broader in general. More “metaphysical” from a human point of view, but the different senses mean different behaviour, different world view, and humans seem to have a really hard time wrapping their mind around any picture of the earth bigger than their own.

Example. Besides the Fae earth, there is another parallel earth called by humans the pit or abyss. It is characterized by a principle called the law of fire. It is not as peaceful or harmonious as the Fae realm. You would think the Fae would reject the abyss, no?

By human thinking, yes. This is a complete delusion on humanities part. In fact, the abyss and the Fae earth have treaties in good standing, and they call entities from the abyss to help them in their wild hunts.

Who resides in the abyss? Daemons, not demons. The children of chaos. They do not have the constructive urge of Fae nor the law of balance. They follow a law of conversion instead, and they often appear to our senses as unnatural. Strange mixes of things from our world. Where Fae actually appear natural, just overstated to our view. The serpents and wyrms and dragons you hear about in fairy lore actually come from the abyss.

So a Daemon might appear like a shiny robot while the Fae looks more humanoid? Robot for lack of a better term. Yes, though Daemon don’t share human feelings about simplicity.

Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
