“For many years Dyan Garris has been counseling clients in order to help them move forward in their lives. She is clairvoyant, clairaudient, and clairsentient. In addition, Dyan is also what is known as a voice recognition psychic and trance channel.

Her book Voice of the Angels Cookbook – Talk To Your Food! Intuitive Cooking is an adventure in opening one’s creative centers and communicating with your food so it can transform from raw ingredients into what truly nourishes you on every level.”

We haven’t read this book but were intrigued by the concept of ‘Intuitive Cooking’. Here are the questions we asked. Hope you find it useful and your thoughts are welcome. Be well.

1. How do you feel that a proper diet can help our spiritual well being?

The proper diet can help our spiritual well being by giving us opportunity to integrate the mind, body, and spirit. When the body is nourished properly, the spirit and mind can come into alignment and balance.

2. What do you consider a ‘proper’ diet to be and how does a person determine what is right for them?

There are so many theories on eating and what the “right” things are to eat based on body type and blood type and so forth. The basic rule I follow is that everything should be in the most natural form possible. Everything we need to nourish and heal ourselves was put here on the planet in its natural state. We’re the ones who changed the form of basic foods. Ultimately, everyone needs to determine for themselves what is the right diet for them; but basically if you feel that whatever you’re eating really nourishes you on every level, then it’s the right thing for you. If you listen to your body, really listen, you’ll know what your body wants to eat.

3. Sometimes I feel I’ve been programmed by society that a recipe must be followed exactly for a meal to turn out.  How can we break free of this idea that a recipe is the only way to cook?

I’ve included several “Intuitively Speaking” paragraphs in the cookbook, which are designed to get the creative juices flowing and allow people to open up and just do it their way. This is so important. People need to make things to their taste. In my book there is nothing that will get ruined if someone does it their way. I carefully chose each recipe based on that. All of the recipes have been tested and also tested with variations; so everything will work. I was taught to cook without ever measuring anything. So I don’t feel confined to following a recipe exactly, but I know many people do. On another level – the level where we are talking about ingrained belief systems and patterns that keep people stuck – it’s important to examine who first told you to follow a recipe exactly and why. Then you would have a key to other patterns and belief systems that may possibly be in your way in other areas, such as manifesting. In order to break free, everyone should study their learned patterns and belief systems. We need to clear out the issues at a basic, root chakra level. That’s how we begin to move forward.

4. Are there some underlying guidelines we should learn to act as a base for intuitive cooking?  For example, how do we know what herbs and spices work with different foods?

This is a great question. The base of intuitive cooking really is intuition. Tune into yourself and ask yourself what you are craving and what you have a taste for. That’s especially important for herbs and spices because those have medicinal qualities. To discover what herbs and spices work with what foods, my advice is just to experiment. Obviously, if something doesn’t even sound good to you as a combination, then it isn’t right for you. The whole basis of intuitive cooking is to open the creative centers and use the foods and flavorings that feel right for you. There is no preconceived notion of what is “right” or “wrong.” And what you’re craving or what you need in terms of food changes from time to time depending upon the needs of the body. So, basically, my guidelines are just to do what feels right to you. Be creative. And most importantly, don’t be afraid to be creative. Nothing scrumptious ever gets created out of fear.

5. What kind of questions should we ask ourselves to know what we should be eating for optimum energy and health?

1. Is the food in its most natural state?

2. Does this nourish me in every way?

3. If you’re craving something, ask yourself why you might be craving it. For example, if you’re craving bananas, perhaps you’re low on potassium.

4. Why do I want to eat this and how will I feel after I eat it?

5. The relationship that you have with food is like any other relationship. Ask yourself if it’s a healthy relationship, and if not what can you change to get what you need?

6. What kind of feedback should we look for…from our food and from our bodies?  Is the intuitive mechanism to focus on feeling, inner dialogue, images, direct knowing or all of these?

The feedback we’re looking for is balance. Examine how a particular food makes you feel. The intuitive mechanism to look for is all of what you mention here; but some people are very disconnected from their feelings, inner dialogue, images, and direct knowing, i.e., their intuition. The interesting thing about food as a means to “connection” is that while it’s feeding the physical body, it also has the power to evoke emotional feelings. If you pay attention, it’s a very good vehicle for integrating body and spirit. If you’re cooking the food yourself, you are also then engaging the mind. And that’s what you want, to have the mind, body, and spirit working together as a team. It’s a necessary step in manifesting.
