We sub- consciously mirror the same system of threats that keep us in line. Why couldn’t we instead mirror those signals that fulfill us? And thus signal others that they are safe and welcome? Would it be confusing?
I find my mood changes depending on the people I hang around. Your mood changes according to the people you are around for two reasons. One natural, the other not. Our nervous systems naturally adjust to synch up with people around us. I’m not talking mental invasion. In this case, I mean life feels like the actions and body language people are expressing around us. It’s visceral, instinctive. Busy people make us nervous. Peaceful people help us relax.
Co-dependence? Interdependence. Like any other ecosystem, it’s a reflexive and cooperative effort to have all living things flourish. Does that seem like co-dependence? No one is submerged. No one gives up their wellbeing or identity to nurture anyone else. That’s a poison pill anyway.
The other side of the mood mirroring effect though… People around you have adopted self-images, social roles. These feel unnatural, painful even. The mind wants to reject these strict patterns, so your mind recognizes not only how others are feeling, but the ideas they live by, again no effort needed. People dress to fit social roles, speak to interest social cliques, things like that.
You may enjoy watching sports, but have you ever wanted to shove a sporty guys ball cap in his mouth? What about car guys? His car might be very impressive, but ever find yourself wondering if he drinks gasoline?
“I like to boat, but I just don’t want to ever be referred to as a ‘boating enthusiast’. I hope they call me ‘a guy who likes to boat’.” Mitch Hedburg. Very sane desire.
Some people can be obnoxious when they are way too into their selves. The thing is they are not enough into themselves. They are into their role. If they were actually into themselves, they wouldn’t neglect a partner for an interest.
Into their accomplishments and material things. Exactly. They will piss and moan when their partner begins muttering about being unhappy, but they “CAN’T” give up their identity as sports guy.
Have I covered recursive confusion as a process in society adequately tonight?
I like the two mirror image. This is why I describe it as recursive. I’m not just trying to throw around big words. I just have to cover the symbolism adequately.
Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends, and never mind the mirrors.
