Shamans were revered in ancient cultures. Shamans were also sages of the natural order, but their teachings did give rise to corruptors as well, who did remove themselves from the village but were not actually persecuted. It even shows up in Africa where the priest or priestess is said to serve the spirits with one hand and their people with the other. But some of their students wind up serving the spirits with both hands, as the metaphor goes.

It comes down to rapport or dissonance, but the reason for either can differ from person to person. In Greece, the oracle was considered touched by the Gods, and the Greek oracles were considered notoriously out of touch with normal people, even crazy for lack of a better term. But there are those who try to take what nature didn’t give them.

In those cultures, were the oracles seen as crazy or in touch? They were seen as crazy, but crazy wasn’t seen as meaningless. It wasn’t seen as a disease, just a derangement. They recognized the oracles as being ill equipped to handle normal reality. This is perhaps why they were taken in as wards of the temples.

Something necessary but unappealing, like dentists or lawyers. Yes. The Oracle of Pythia was considered incredibly inspired, but also contemptuous of normal human company. There has always been a relationship between the witches and the villagers though, and they haven’t always been at war. The weird sisters of Shakespeares play would be witches. Many stories tell of those who live apart helping those who live in the normal world, even showing an incomprehensible sort of compassion. I offer that there is just a range of enlightenment in their numbers, much as there is in normal folk.

Fringe people. Yes, but both cultures need to advance, and the witches need to find their way again now that they aren’t being culled so passionately. This is why you hear stories about the autism epidemic, stuff like that. But both hands of the human body spiritus need to cooperate, cross pollinate. The right hand needs to learn what the left hand is doing, and capable of doing. The paths of corruption are too numerous for me to discuss fully today.

There has been a pattern of division between the two for a long time. There has, but the people of the right hand can learn to know their enemies and those of the other camp who actually are not their enemies. Know friend from foe.

Maybe the pattern needs to be corrupted? It does. If the right acts of corruption are recognized and encouraged, this trend of social decay would stop and the growth cycle would go forward at its full strength. Political corruption is actually not true corruption, merely exploitation. Civic corruption is the same.
