Our Imaginings

The topic is imagination. Like my imagination that I have insights to offer others. It is tentative at best, to be honest.

What is imagination? Hmm, having “the foggiest” would be imagination. Having the foggiest is what you get when your imagination is in conflict with your thinking, but do we have to do this thing we call imagine?

We imagine a day in the morning, otherwise we wouldn’t get up. Your mind comes up with ideas, impulses and images, imagination in its most fundamental root. Do you have to direct this?

We don’t have to, but it can get nasty if we don’t. Actually, it gets nasty because you do. Otherwise, your imagination just falls back on instinct. Instinct is life affirmative. Instinct is itself part of the psychological complex we call imagination.

Can we choose a course without having an imagination about the choice? Can we take offence at something without imagining what the action meant? As is all too often the case, the offence is very often in our personal imagination alone, as people don’t commonly choose to put themselves at odds with another human being.

I’ve seen in a large company how every employee uses their imagination to understand a companies motive and it varies hugely. It amazes me what people can come up with. And if their imagination of the motive is in too much disagreement, can the company function?

Goals are imagined events. They are imaginings we have based on “experience”, and experience is imaginings we have had based on sense memory. Our brains retain sense information because it has survival value, but how many of us cling only to an animal level of survival? It would be like a caged tiger. Even they require changes in their sense “diet”, and with longer deprivation of new stimuli, the tiger can become just as restless as if it had not fed, actually more so.

So how do we do this thing called imagine? How do you know when you are imagining? Do you know? I know when I am imagining when my mind stirs or is moved by any experience. That is when I am imagining, but isn’t that just thought? Is there a difference?

What is clear to you? What is it that you know? I know that I am. I know that the body of information called my experience is ongoing. I know that with creative sorting I can often see patterns in my experience that I didn’t at first notice.

Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
