Questioning Minds

We have questioning minds because we have roving eyes. Does each lead or follow at different times? Does mind exist only in the wads of meat in our skulls? I would argue the mind doesn’t follow the eye and this can be backed up in science. The eye follows the mind.

Native tribes exposed to new things like movie screens simply can’t see them. That has been established. Then a mystic comes along and speaks the same language as the tribe, eventually revealing the movie screen to his people. If not making it understood or understandable, they do make it seen. Thus science can seem very occult, and the occult can and has become science.

My difference with science is not contradiction of its insights, nor is my difference with a naturalist/humanist/materialist philosophy. I don’t agree with the restriction of view is all. It is true, but I feel it to be a limited truth.

Many modern mystics were also engineers. Crowley’s views were very experiential and pragmatic. I myself don’t differ with these things, I embrace them. I feel experience isn’t sufficiently emphasised or scrutinized. Some say “it was my spiritual experience so don’t analyze it”. I say why not? I’m not looking for sacred cows. There is no violation of me to look at my experience. If I analyze yours it isn’t out of disrespect unless you have deified something. Then it can seem like very offensive sacrilege.  We should look to our belief for what it creates, what it motivates. We should hold our belief to the same standards as science. What does it do?

I despise the idea of preaching or proselytizing. Leads to angry mobs not wisdom.  Leads to hate groups not social improvement. Hating church is as bad as churches hating, but loving church is a mistake also. To put a group higher than the personal search. Churches are people, precepts are forces, people are the guiding factor.

Restrictions are reactionary and potentially destructive. Choice is its mirror opposite, related but not the same.

Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
