We are a reason to play. When we were children we woke with a desire to play. We wanted our day to happen. Do we still feel that way?

Play is permission to do. When we play as kids, we get or give ourselves permission to do things, if only in our imaginations. We stop playing well as our brains grow up. No one can change our game but ourselves, and how many are bored or lost? The question in life is not “What is my purpose?”. That questions just makes us look really silly. The biggest question in life is “Are we having fun yet?”.

Do we have time in this life to play? We don’t have time in this life for anything but play. I promise you, you don’t.

“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.” Plato (Ancient Greek Philosopher He was the world’s most influential philosopher. 428 BC-348 BC)

“Play is the only way the highest intelligence of humankind can unfold.” Joseph Chilton Pearce

“Play has been man’s most useful preoccupation.” Frank Caplan

    Is Anything Not Important?

    Your Playground

Shall we look at things a different way? Perhaps just one person, who wants to volunteer? I’ll volunteer. Excellent. Ok, you wake up in the morning, your behaviour is wide open. No rules. The entire world is your playground just like when you were a kid. What do you do in that morning? Hmmm… Take…

  • Game Pieces

    Game Pieces

Now let’s change the game. Like any game, you have to play with the pieces you have to actually be playing that game. Do you really play with your game pieces? When someone is taking too long on their turn. Excellent, that’s the autonomy thing, or the autotelic drive as they say, but then do…

    More Fluxx

Your friend is playing the game. Your boss is playing the game. Are they playing well? If not, why not? Is it because they are told to play but that they aren’t allowed to actually play? A lot of people at work play ‘run the library like a corporation.’ Yes, and that might be a…

    A Way to Practice Life

Now over time, you might have to change some game pieces, specifically your pieces. The other pieces don’t belong to you, but you can always continue playing the game, no? What do you really have if you don’t play? People imply there is something better, is there? More free time? Ah, recent research suggests that…
