Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result? Insanity is a sane response to an insane situation, but the situation was insane because there was no wonder. We have a quote on our calendar right now from a Native American chieftain. “It’s not because things are difficult that we dare not venture. It’s because we dare not venture that things are difficult.” And will you try if you do not wonder?
Bungee jumping is not hard, but stepping over the edge is. And stepping over the edge is only hard because we have decided it is.
Those that don’t explore the world and try to understand its mysteries will live lesser lives. They will live only a half life. If I’m alive only because the biological support mechanisms are all working, I don’t consider that a life. If I’m alive because my instincts prevent me from facing things that might be dangerous, and I have nothing to show for it but my continued organic function, I don’t consider that a life either.
But as I said earlier, wonder is not a human habit. All animals have something about them that serves no real mechanical basis. The living world is not a machine. This something is like a voice that beacons any living thing to try one more thing, go one more place, even though it’s not necessary. It’s not even easy. This force moves all of life so powerfully that some things even lose their lives in order to satisfy it, or go mad when a cage, real or imagined, bars their way.
It will make you watch to the end of even a bad movie, curiosity. Indeed. Wonder isn’t some clean and sanitized thing suitable only for ivory tower philosophers. It’s terrible in both its beauty and its ugliness. In it’s morbid moments as well as its inspiring heights.
In the news there have been a lot of reports of falling. Two plane crashes, a bus fallen over, four cases of kids falling out of windows and one of a girl falling from a ferris wheel. Is this some kind of force at work? Maybe something to do with balance? It’s the elements, specifically the domain of air.
Yes, gravity. There is no gravity. The world sucks, and after that joke I affirm it’s truth as well. Literally, the force we call gravity is a bi-product of quantum collapse. Quantum processes actually pull things together, so the world really does suck.
Like how there also seems to be a string of natural disasters lately. I wonder why these things seem to happen in cycles. Wonder is a mirror and a door. You never wonder without reason. You cannot reason without wonder. Can you attempt to understand a thing without first realizing that you don’t?
And accidents give us wonder about how to make things safer. Yes. Our wonder on how to make things safe sometimes can take all the fun out and prevent future wonder. Indeed, that happens routinely. We make things safe to the point of stupid. I prefer not to live a wheel chair life.
And how you should keep an eye on your kids a bit better so they don’t fall out of windows. Yes. Despite the odd pattern of falling, it’s still avoidable and will remain so.
It’s a wonder they don’t wonder why we wonder. It is indeed a wonder, but some do wonder about that my friend. I wonder. Wonder is magic. Wonder is the power of the mind. Wonder is the truest God any being will ever perceive, but wonder has a companion force.
Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
