Spirit of the Satyrs

The spirit of the satyrs is very far from gone. Many still feel the call of the wild and display the gifts Pan was said to provide; animal communication, wild foresight, instinctive intuition, even simple will to live which is not a common trait these days.

Pan has been inviting us to dance to the old tunes, the song of the wind. His song has gotten stronger and harder now, heavier, heavy metal?

Thankfully, he’s not dead. Indeed, it is a blessing.

As things have gotten much more serious, as much as we have been abusing the wisdom of poor quiet Vulcan, he who would be god of the modern engineer, we need the influence of the dream of Pan to ground us again, centre us in the vital though seriously distressed “here and now” as they say.

This is, in a sense what Jung meant by “individualization,” isn’t it? Coming to terms – integrating – our deepest selves? One of whom is the Satyr, another Pan. Indeed, exactly. In times of shadow it’s the wisdom of the shadow that offers any hope of survival. That wisdom misguided leads to the insanity that has been so common as of late, but if this impulse is met with the necessary reciprocal empathy, the dancers need dance partners, the wave needs to meet flow and not break against the shore of the machine, so called “reason.”

There’s that yin/yang thing again. Yes.

There is evidence that human genetic expression is not quite the stable thing it’s so long been imagined to be. So there may have been a people who displayed traits that would have seemed mysteriously animalistic to the Greeks and Romans, being especially hairy for example, or having pronounced brow ridges and facial features like a horse.

Perhaps Neanderthals. It has been established that the supposedly primitive neanderthal species was likely nothing of the sort. Primitive, that is

I have often thought they may also be the source of the dwarf myth – short, stocky, strong, big noses, good with tools. Excellent example, might have been mountain loving like some ape species are.

They have even gone so far as to have genetically sequenced neanderthals, guess what?

They decoded neanderthal DNA? They did, and they are something like 98.3% identical to us. Interbreeding would have been quite easy and natural. It seems the difference between us, as dramatic as our physical traits difference would have seemed, would have come down to epigenetic switches.

They were immune to schizophrenia and autism. We are not. So those mad seizures, that were supposedly just defects of our poor benighted ancestors and were theorized to be brought on by harsh living conditions or poor health habits, may have been nothing of the kind. They may even have been the reason we are capable of our so called advanced reason today. What do you think?

It makes total sense.

I think we ought to look into “seizures” more closely. They are, though they are still approaching it with the classical scientific prejudice, clinging to the same old outmoded paradigm that has kept them spinning their wheels for so long.

Yes, worshipping the great god industry. Poor Vulcan bastard son.

I think that seizures may have created Christianity… (referring to Paul’s 3 days on the Damascus Road, blind and visions, etc.) Excellent example. They may have even given rise to the vision of the Buddha that lead to his enlightenment. Those with temporal lobe seizures often report feelings of peace and oneness with the world and those around them after. And Gautama was famous for extreme asceticism, even among his peers, until he gave it up. Exhaustion is known for bringing on a seizure. I suffered from temporal lobe seizures myself, most often brought on by sleep deprivation, as well as my genetic disorder.

And science has found meditation alters brain structure.

On a survival show called ‘Naked and Afraid’, people have had seizures from dehydration and malnutrition. Yes. They can have it just from being afraid. It is one of the risks of extreme isolation even if you have food and water. It is even triggered by sensory deprivation tanks.

Jung believed that catharsis, the collapse and reconstruction of the personality, was a necessary first step to self actualization, so the fearful mystery schools may have been on to something?

Perhaps. One of the most fearful being the Dionysian mysteries, fire and themes of death were involved. Dynosus was a dying and resurrecting deity, and Dionysus was seen as identical to Pan.

“The Dionysian Mysteries were a ritual of ancient Greece and Rome which used intoxicants and other trance-inducing techniques (like dance and music) to remove inhibitions and social constraints, liberating the individual to return to a natural state.”

A lot like tribal ritual, war dances and such, no?

For future topics I can do undines, and kelpies, and selkies, all the spirits of the seas potentially. I could do machine spirits. They are kin to insect spirits, as well as crystal spirits.

Till next time friends, come and go freely and in peace. Your thoughts are welcome.
