They have discovered the source of “talent.” It’s the myelinization process. It can be deliberately triggered, but not by trying to perform any single task as a whole activity. The task has to be broken down, and small parts of it rehearsed carefully with focused attention. What this all means is, well, science tells us we don’t really have free will. Strange as that sounds, I agree with it, with qualifications.
Have any of you succeeded in changing your behaviour in the same moment it’s triggered?
Touching a hot stove, perhaps. You still touched it.
A bit later maybe. And yes, a bit later you can change the behaviour.
Practicing yellow magick is practicing experience before you have it triggered. It’s been proven scientifically that your brain can’t tell the difference between sensory experience and an experience vividly imagined.
Do you mean like precognitive thought? It can trigger precognitive thought.
Mentally preparing? Well, more like mentally creating behaviour. You can’t really prepare for the unanticipated, but what you can do is be well practised in being ready for opportunities. What those opportunities are is determined by you.
That’s why Second Life sex can seem real for instance. It is why people can become so engrossed even in sexual images they aren’t even tangentially participating in. They are still imagining it.
So yes, back to the free will comment. You don’t have free will. You do have free won’t.
We are victims of circumstance? No, we are not victims of circumstance, just mirrors of it. You can angle the mirror. Does anyone know how to exercise free won’t?
Dream? Your mind will generate ideas whether you want it to or not, and you don’t actually have control of it that directly.
When I won’t sleep with someone I don’t want. Indeed, that is free won’t in practice.
Process of elimination? Actually, process of continuity checking. Remember those behavioural heuristics I mentioned earlier? One of the most powerful of those, and one that is universally present, is “identity.” You will reject anything your subconscious mind fails to identify with. If you don’t see yourself as hating the world, then any of the behavioural options that are associated directly with hating the world will be rejected by you, and you develop this model of self based on your instinct for survival and self-expression. The mind requires not only physical integrity but functional freedom and will always select for the optimum in both of those unless it is otherwise impaired through drugs, brain damage or severe trauma.
What does fear do to the mind? Fear blinds the mind in the worst case. Otherwise, it heightens focus, which was its original adaptive function.
But some “surprises” can break us loose, like a Koan, perhaps. Yes. We are only surprised when either we are receptive to surprise, or one of our survival instincts are triggered. Otherwise, we won’t even register the surprising experience.
Fear blinding the mind? Fear is the mind killer, the little death that leads to complete annihilation. Otherwise, we often don’t even register it as fear. Most people wouldn’t say they are afraid of their car or driving, but the “fear” response still kicks in while they are driving to heighten their focus. So fear is, if left undistorted, just one of the many features of the mind and can actually be used to strengthen free won’t.
Fear of accidents. Fear of hitting someone.
You exercise free won’t when you acknowledge the undesirable outcome, but you do still have to know it is possible, do you not? Can you solve problems by knowing all about the problem? The more you know about a problem, the more your mind categorizes it as a problem. You lose the ability to see the details in the generalized experience of the problem. Can you have a problem and have specific experiences?
Having a problem keeps you from seeing specifics? I will answer that question with a question. Has anyone ever brought a problem to you and been able to describe specific aspects of their experience regarding that problem?
By the time they bring the problem to me, they are already overwhelmed with it. Has anyone ever described a chain of their experiences to you, then concluded that they think maybe they have a problem?
I’m not sure but I think the specifics came with the solution, not the problem.
Well, perhaps we need to get a little more/less human? Shall we go deeper?
Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
