Spirituality for Living

If people barely are able to control their feelings , their thoughts and their actions, how can we hope to achieve a magickal act? Your emotions are linked to external energies. When you recognize the connection then you see that you are acted upon and can act in kind. Astrology is based on observations of how natural cycles affect human spirit, using the stars as mnemonic devices and a clock of the cycle.

Truth be told many people actually act very little. They actually tend to live rather reactively. How can one learn to be more attuned to the energies around? Our lives are often so busy and full of ‘noise’? Even that noise is an energy often called “psychic” in that it seems to originate with the human mind. But attunement can often be achieved through elemental meditation. Just letting the rhythms of the wind, or a flowing stream flow through your mind. Often that brings about the state that has been described as union with the element and when you experience this you realize that the “spirit” of the waters or the wind, is already in you and always is. With this realization you can in a sense act with the power of this element.

In the Chinese tactical manual “the book of five rings” there is a lot of elemental symbolism and it isn’t just a memory device. It’s an intuitive recognition of how we are connected to the energies in the world around us. The disciplines of kung-fu were based on the same sort of insight.

The idea that humans are self enclosed systems sharing no properties with the world around them seems difficult to substantiate from my experience. Tension in the body comes from resistance. A rebalancing of the inflowing chi reinforces and perhaps resets natural harmony in your internal energy systems. We act with the energies of the elements when we touch a suffering person and adopt the essence of the still waters. It changes our energy, which entrains theirs.

If we interpret these energies in experiential ways the state of being around us, then we are connected? Yes, in a sense. But really it’s not so much a subjective interpretation as it is an intuitive realization of an already existing natural fact.
