Describing My Experience

Shall I share what inspired me to choose today’s topic of Disease? For the longest while I have been struggling with a question, and it has been circular, frustratingly recursive in my experience of my own strange talents, if you can call them that.

I began searching for descriptions of my experience, looking into everything from parapsychology to every school of magick, philosophy and spirituality under the sun. The only ones I have actually neglected are the neo forms, the recreationist efforts, or of course those that have not left a trace in history for me to pursue. I found myself rejecting one system after another, not out of personal preference, not just because it didn’t suit me, but simply because it failed to adequately or accurately describe my experience, explain the phenomena I was experiencing or give me any means to understand or control it.

Chinese Parapsychology Classifications

In Chinese parapsychology, I learned that they acknowledge two classifications of psychic talent, and even in magick there are broad domains of knowledge, talent and practice as well. The various terms all ending in ‘mancy’ are what I am referring to. Mancy just means knowledge, perhaps more specifically intuitive knowledge, as opposed to logia which is what ology comes from.

Knowledge and logic aren’t the same thing? Indeed, knowledge and logic are not the same thing. Logia was originally seen as a much broader and loosely defined style of thought than the various forms of mancy.

You study logic for the knowledge? Actually, you practice logic to analyze knowledge. It contains no knowledge, and generates no knowledge. It’s just a way of framing it like in photography, it gives you an angle, a point of view.

Well, in Chinese parapsychology they recognize two broad classifications of psychic ability. Yang psychism which would be learned skills, intuitive training, anything that can be deliberately acquired and developed. Most of the books you find on psychic ability fall into that category.

The other category is yin, consisting of those psychic manifestations that are not deliberately acquired, that can’t normally be deliberately developed, more innate and naturalistic than conscious, like a young person who sees ghosts whether they want to or not.

But still not “dis-ease”? Technically, no. Yin psychic talents would be natural and normal for the person, so not disease. You don’t technically want to be able to see specific things. You never make that conscious decision. You just see things while you are awake and your eyes are open.

Could you call any unwanted experience disease?

When it alters your health they say it’s disease. When it alters your health yes, it could be called disease.

Body mind spirit, all of it.

Universal Domains of Metaphysics

Now how this relates to me and why I chose this topic… The world’s metaphysical fabric could be organized into two very broad categories. The first and most widely accepted at one time, considered entirely natural and normal, is alchemy and though they go by vastly different terms and symbolism, ultimately most schools of magick are some form of alchemy. A system of naturalistic change, change in conformity with will and all that. The shamans herbalism would be a form of alchemy, as would the Indian gurus yoga, or the Chinese sage. They had something equivalent to yoga also.

I ponder prayer as a “yoga” and perhaps an alchemical rite.

Something just as equally prevalent, but off on the fringes, in the shadows so to speak but still universal, even simple prayers of faith are described in such a way as to make them ultimately classify as alchemy, transformation of the devotee.

The other universal domain is necromancy, also a system of transformation, but relating to things in such a way that at first look might seem to run against the grain, seem unnatural, sick, scary, despite my efforts to apply myself to wholesome things.

Scary. I ponder ” Egyptian book of the dead.” The Egyptians didn’t fear necromancy as much as many other cultures did, but the average Egyptian citizen still did, they just kept their distance, gave it a place. The necropolis wasn’t considered unholy, but neither was it considered safe or friendly.

Isn’t the practice of mummification sort of necromancy? It is indeed necromancy.

Do they even still do that today? They do not. It’s if anything rather strictly forbidden as Islam is a largely dominant religion in the region today, and they do not approve of necromancy at all. Their influence caused the loss of a great deal of Egyptian lore. They considered things like the hieroglyphs heathen, unholy, so sought to destroy them.

So as much as I tried to dedicate myself to something pure, something wholesome and good, my innate talents kept dragging me back to a state that I had done everything I could to reject. It was hideous and scary, cold and alienating. I did everything I could to find a place elsewhere.

I love when villains sing about being evil in a merry way. They are accepting their role in the world. This has nothing to do with actually being evil. It’s more like having a child discover that all those horrible nightmares and stories were real, leaves you at “then what?” The stories and nightmares are an “assist” – a shoe-horn into reality for the child.

But it has to do with accepting.

My Gifts

The reason I rejected my natural talents, and I still hold to this principle, is that anything that is not life affirming is not worth attention, and I could see nothing life affirming at the time in my innate gifts, if my gifts are to be believed. As much as people say otherwise, you are not happy, you are not confident, you are not hopeful, you are not strong, you are not sane. Are my gifts in error? Am I deluded? I would welcome proof that I  am, eagerly. Thoughts?

What would you say your gifts are? The term would be necromancer.

The Gospel of Thomas says lift up a stone, I’m there.

Nothing — or better to say, everything is a lens, is an opportunity, is a doorway for transformation.

Recently, something has occurred to me that has changed my relationship to this whole issue.

Be well friends.
