Empowering Expectation

Quick poll. For who do expectations feel disempowering?

  • I really felt them to be at work limiting. I felt they limited what I could achieve.
  • I’ve never felt disempowered.
  • They can be discouraging if they are given too much emotional weight when they are not met.

For who have expectations felt empowering?

  • Not me.
  • Me, I get all tingly.
  • I haven’t felt empowered either. Sometimes maybe some dread.
  • It depends on the expectation.
  • Sometimes I feel happy from a pleasant anticipation associated with the expectation.

Expectations can be empowering. In that like say “flying a kite”, we can anticipate a forces presence in our reality and use it to a personally selected purpose. They can be disempowering in the case of blind expectation when we develop an opinion of what should be possible and exert a great deal of effort to connect with that only to end up frustrated.

There should be a term like the others in Buddhism, ‘right expectation’? There is actually. It’s right identification. I say it’s right identification with reason. When we identify with boundaries, I am this and not that, then we shut ourselves off from any dynamic. If we identify with processes, with the world as it manifests in us and even in other life, even in matter if you can go that far, then you will see that there is no power over you nor any source of conflict. That anything and everything that you will ever do, you will do in time. There is no such thing in my view as circumstances. Only flow. What do you think?

I keep wanting to see the circumstances and not the flow. What circumstance has ever endured for you?

I have not heard the word love used. Surely it’s a journey of love, soul, spirit? Love is being in the presence/peace of everything. Love is open awareness. From open awareness all informed choice can be moved. All acts are acts of compassion if taken in harmony with the greater spirit in the world. All betrayals of love are ultimately only betrayals of self and self elected.

What is the best way to connect with the flow, or recognize it? The best way to connect with the flow is to not see events as objects. Events are the movement of living things. A spirit that lives and moves through all persons involved, thus no passing of a circumstance or condition is actually any destruction. It is in fact merely a change of posture. You can nurture the spirit behind any circumstance and like anything nurtured it grows closer to you. It creates more events of its kind, variations of course, because these spirits are complex things.

I’m not sure about “thus no passing of a circumstance or condition is actually any destruction”? Let’s say you have a spirit of prosperity, for lack of a better term a psychic flow, that has allowed some propensity to manifest but you don’t really connect with it. Not acknowledging it, this energy goes where the attention is focused and appears to disappear from you. But the energy hasn’t been destroyed, it has just moved. The prosperity energy isn’t “your” energy. It’s just energy.

Is this the mechanism behind the law of attraction? It is, yes.

Often we are prosperous in ways that we don’t necessarily recognize in our present moment. Exactly. Energy changes form. Energy evolves into more complex patterns if nurtured, and can in a sense “grow stronger.”

If we hold rigid expectations looking for success in one area, we may be missing the success that is manifesting in another? Yes. Not engaging the flow that would allow the growth of the life you are in into that goal.

Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
