A big part of why empathy suffers in today’s society is that they think they see the other’s view. But they put themselves into their own construct. That isn’t empathy. It’s actually pretty depersonalizing. They cannot even see themselves, feel for themselves. This is why they don’t see what they do. They don’t claim the interface with that other that they created, let alone take responsibility for it.
It is something some children are born with and others seem to never understand. Yet, it also can be learned. The children born with it are often also very imaginative and have their capacity for empathy strained from being criticised for their “fantasies”. They are still steered around to a different stance. There is a study that suggests that there is a genetic predisposition that is inherited, to a higher constant cortisol level. The child genetically more sensitive has the higher cortisol level which also affects metabolism.
Cortisol is the “stress” hormone and it heightens sensitivity in general. But the metabolic effect varies. For some it manifest in a “stunned” metabolism. So the body type will present differently but a rapid reactivity is universal. So extremes of body type really. Where someone with a more “normalized” hormonal level will tend more to a steady metabolism. The research shows it is a cross species phenomenon also. Herd animals don’t dart from the reaction of their alpha and they are not all equally sensitive. They dart from response to sentry members. If you understand it for what it is and not the character defect you are taught it is, you can learn to live with this sensitivity.
Psycho pharmacy proves pretty unreliable. Many of these “types” tend to take drugs to counter act there sensitivity. It does create the addictive personality tendency and it further messes with their metabolic rates and anxiety and empathy is numbed in the long run. But I see that as a lack of support rather than any actual innate tendency.
Your thoughts are welcome. Be well friends.
